French Toast Stars
How about an easy Holiday Morning breakfast recipe that your friends and family will love!
French Toast Stars was a traditional fun breakfast treat when my friend Betty was growing up and she shared this easy recipe with me this year!
Her mother used a star shaped cookie cutter to cut French Toast stars on Christmas morning and her whole family helped and loved the experience, not to mention eating the yummy stars!
8 (thick) slices of bread, (use any type of bread you prefer), 2 eggs, 1/4 cup heavy cream, 2 tablespoons honey, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 ground cinnamon, 1 tablespoon grated orange zest, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract and 3 tablespoons of butter. Remember the Star shaped cookie cutter!
Push the cookie cutter in the center of a slice of bread and hold the star while cutting the excess away from the outside so as not to tear the star. Repeat on all slices of bread.
In a medium bowl, beat together eggs, whipping cream, honey, salt, cinnamon, orange zest and vanilla extract.
On a griddle or in a frying pan, melt the butter over medium high heat.
Dip both sides of the stars in the egg mixture and carefully transfer to the hot griddle or frying pan.
Brown on both sides and transfer to a warm plate while the rest of the stars are cooking.
Heat the maple syrup, honey or any type of syrup on the stove in a sauce pan or in the microwave and enjoy!
