George Washington Was a Giant of Man
Estimates of George Washington’s height range from 6’ 1’ to more than 6’ 4”. That’s pretty tall by our standards. But consider that the average height of a male in 1750 was 5 7”. He must have looked like a giant!
So he was huge and famously strong. But did he throw a silver dollar across the Potomac River? Not likely. The Potomac River is over a mile wide as it passes through Washington, DC. More to the point, silver dollars hadn’t yet been minted!
Happy President’s Day!
