The Origin of Gift Wrapping Paper
So, where did the idea for patterned gift wrapping paper come from?
In 1917, the Hall Brothers stumbled into the gift-wrapping market by accident. At that time, they offered red, green, and white tissue paper in their Kansas City, Missouri store. But a few days before Christmas they sold out.
While searching the backroom they found decorative envelope liner paper. They brought that out to the showroom and suggested it as gift wrapping paper. Their customers loved it. They sold out of that paper.
The next year they offered a wider selection; and as they say, the rest is history!
