Ground Beef Recipe — Shepherds Pie

Shepherds Pie is Easy to Make Comfort Food

We all know what Comfort Foods are, right?

Comfort foods are the yummy in the tummy foods that Mom made when you were a kid.  Foods that made you feel, warm, secure and nurtured.

My friend Anne makes this Shepherd’s Pie recipe whenever she feels like she wants to have some warming comfort food.  You will love this easy to make recipe for those cooler Fall and Winter days! It will warm you up in a hurry!

Easy Shepherd's Pie

Easy Shepherd’s Pie

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 yellow onion
  • 1 can of cut green beans
  • 1 package brown gravy mix
  • 5 potatoes
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese
  • 1/2 cube of butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Green beans are optional and you can add or change any vegetable.

Peel and chop the potatoes and place them in a pot of water to cook and soften so they can be mashed.  Dice the onion and brown it with the 1lb of ground beef.

Once the potatoes are soft, drain the water and mash the potatoes with about a half cube of butter or margarine and 1/4 cup of milk.  Drain the browned ground beef and onions and place the meat on the bottom of a round, oval or square baking dish.  Open and drain the can of green beans or add any other vegetable and place them over the top of the ground beef. Mix the gravy with 1/2 cup of water, stir it and pour it over the meat and vegetables. Spoon the mashed potatoes over the meat and vegetables and make sure it covers evenly.  Make peaks in the potatoes if you like.  Sprinkle the grated cheese evenly over the potatoes.  Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees  and bake for about 35 minutes or until the cheese is melted and slightly browned.  Yum…
