Unpacking in Bellevue Washington. Mrs. Burnet (not her real name) moved from Arizona to a lovely Bellevue retirement community. However, she didn’t get to pack her own things. Unfortunately, she had taken a fall and
her children packed up her home for her. Not wanting to discard anything that she may have wanted, Mrs. Burnet’s children packed everything. That might not have been such a bad idea if they had been there to unpack in Bellevue, Washington. But things didn’t work out that way.
Fortunately, the community’s marketing director knew that Moving Forward could help Mrs. Burnet unpack in Bellevue, Washington, even though we hadn’t helped her move there. The challenge was that no one knew quite how much there would be to unpack!
At Moving Forward, we decided to send two employees to unpack in Bellevue, Washington, just in case there was a lot. As it turned out, there was a lot. There was more than a lot. There was a LOT more than a lot!!!
Boxes filled the living room, but they just kept coming in the door. And then a long sofa got squeezed into the living room. Mrs. Burnet sat on it with her knees pressed into a wall of boxes. She asked us keep an eye out for her X-ray glasses, so she could watch television through the wall of boxes in front of her. Just as we wondered if Candid Camera was behind all of this, the movers triumphantly positioned two huge cornice boards on top of the pile with a grand finale flourish.
We were all speechless until Mrs. Burnet announced, “Well, those won’t fit on my windows here!”
Now we reversed the flow of items. The cornice boards went back out in the hall for donation.
“I love my kids, but why did they pack all the different sizes of sheets when they only sent the queen size bed?” Out went the sheets to the hallway charity box.
“My turkey roasting pan? My electric griddle? I’m letting someone else cook for me now.” Out went boxes of kitchen equipment.
“An ironing board? I said ‘No’ to ironing a long time ago!” At least Mrs. Burnet had a great sense of humor.
It took two days, but we finally got Mrs. Burnet’s whole apartment fully unpacked and organized. The folks from Candid Camera never did appear to claim responsibility for our absurd situation. But Mrs. Burnet kept us laughing through the whole process of unpacking in Bellevue, Washington.
