Moving Tips to Move You Forward

  •  Allow lots of time for sorting. A few hours a week over a period of months is much easier than sorting everything out in a mad rush.
  • Decide which furniture to take with you before you start sorting the smaller things like books and dishes.
  • Ask yourself, “What items do I use the most?” to help you focus your thoughts about what you need to move with you.
  • Make a floor plan, so you can see which pieces will fit in your new home.
  • Use ¾” removable, colored labels to mark items. Green is for items to move with you; Yellow is for items intended for a family member; Red is for items that you don’t need any more.
  • Call a moving company at least 2 weeks ahead of the day that you would like to move.
  • Talk to an estate sale company about liquidating left over items as soon as you have identified which items you won’t be keeping.
  • Finish sorting before you start packing to avoid taking duplicates.
  • Pack a suitcase of things you’ll want to unpack first.
  • Ask for help if you feel overwhelmed.  We can handle the job from start to finish OR we can just take care of the things that you don’t want to do.
